Developmental education, also known as remedial education, is designed to help students improve their reading, writing, and/or math skills to better prepare them for college-level coursework. However, studies have shown that students who are placed into remedial education have a lower likelihood of finishing a program of study and obtaining a degree or credential. This study provides an analysis of current remedial course taking and offerings in New Jersey and assesses how implementation of such coursework has changed over time.
